For the past seven years, the running joke between me and my high school friend, Andrea Young, has been that we’re the others number one fan. Basically we’re a sounding board, a pep squad, a walking blog, a living Bible for the other.

Bon Voyage My #1
Andrea and I met in 9th grade English and soon, if not quickly, hit it off. Though we’ve had a few minor hiccups through the years we’ve hung in there and I’ve watched her blossom into an incredible specimen of a woman. What God chose not to give her in stature, He definitely gave her in spirit, personality, vision, intelligence, and heart.
She recently accepted a job promotion which required her to relocate from Huntsville. I told her the selfish part of me wanted to scream, “No, don’t go,” because I know that Huntsville won’t be the same without her. People may not realize that, but it’s already different here now that she’s gone.
Of course I wished, I wish her the best. I’m her number one fan. I was right there on facebook cheering, and sending text messages, and making plans to have one last hoorah before she moved on.
Our last supper, if you will, was at Olive Garden and we laughed for a couple of hours. No tears for us, we let the weather take care of that. Besides we weren’t saying good-bye; only good luck.
And, as always, I’m content knowing that I went to the wailing wall for her and she can always go and gain some encouragement that someone prayed for her.
None Like You
Although my girl is gone, I’m still pressing on with our Father. As much as Andrea and I would like to, we can’t top Him for the position of “Biggest Fan.”
Chris, a good friend of mine, wrote to me regarding God in an email years ago:
“…This Guy is a lover of souls!!! He sweats us. We’re sleep and He’ll be over our beds like, I love him, I can’t wait till tomorrow. I can’t wait to hook him up, I love to make him smile. I can’t wait to give him protection and I can’t wait to save him from his troubles…”
I couldn’t have said it better. What a fantastic way of looking at our Creator. Plus, God has assured me through the words He spoke to the Children of Israel in Jeremiah that He’s my biggest fan:
“…For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…”*
Who could ask for anything more?
So while you may feel friendless or short a few cheerleaders at your pep rallies, please remember that He’s always there rooting you on. He’s got a lot more invested in you than any human.
Tell me about your number one fan!
*Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV)

“No tears for us, we let the weather take care of that.” … Your statement no longer holds true, my friend. I, with misty eyes, read your beautiful blog entry. You're right. I love you. But God loves you much more. Continue your excellent work of exalting the name of our matchless Lord and Savior. You are such an inspiration.
